Collins leading one and Cicotte leading the other because they didn’t get along. Of course, the Collins clan is still playing. Also Joe wouldn’t have gone back to baseball because he was running a successful buisness in Georgia. Joe finished his interview by saying, “It’s all water over the dam as far as I am concerned. I can say that my conscience is clear and that I will stand on my record in that World Series. I am not what you call a good Christian, but I believe in the Good Book, particularly where it says ‘what you sow, so shall you reap.’ I have asked the Lord for guidance before, and I am sure He gave it to me. I am willing to let the Lord be my judge” (Bisher 8). This statement just shows he didn’t care as much as people thought he would if he thought he was innocent. Maybe this is a clue that he actually was guilty, maybe not. Joe Jackson’s records were black listed from the big leagues. He set many records in his short career. Joe was called the best pure hitter of his time and who knows, maybe he could have been the best ever. Hitting .400 in a rookie is tough and he still is the only man to ever do it. When you ask a baseball fan what the biggest scandal in the history of baseball is, they will have no hesitation in mentioning the 1919 Chicago White Sox World Series fix. Part of Joe’s last words were “I’m going to meet the greatest umpire of all – and he knows I’m innocent.” (McCroskey 1).
