But on Thursday April 6th it was revealed that a breakup was unlikely which was what was likely to happen as announced the day before (Eskenazi, 1). Another reason we should be thankful for Microsoft is that they have helped out in many ways. If you have ever used a Macintosh or Apple computer you would know that they are not that great, in fact they are pretty crappy. Every year for the last decade, Microsoft's share of the market for Intel-compatible PC operating systems has stood above ninety percent. For the last couple of years the figure has been at least ninety-five percent, and analysts project that the share will climb even higher over the next few years. Even if Apple's Mac OS were included in the relevant market, Microsoft's share would still stand well above eighty percent (US Department of Justice).
