Forms and Types of Meditation

One form of meditation actually takes place as one is going about one's daily round of activities by doing so "mindfully" or through what is known as "self-remembering" to be calm and at peace ("What" 1). Meditation is a process or practice that helps keep the mind firmly rooted in the here-and-now or the present moment. This helps keep the mind from worrying over things that are in the past or might happen in the future. Though initially an aspect of Eastern cultures, meditation has begun to become more accepted and practiced in Western nations, including in the United States. In addition to this acceptance and practice, the medical community is becoming more supportive of the health benefits that arise from practicing meditation.
