The Klu Klux Klan had a negative response to all of the changes that were taken place in America; the black movements in rural cities, catholic movement, and immigration. The Klu Klux Klan was made up of white Protestants that were anti-foreign, anti-Semitic, and anti-Catholic. The Klu Klux Klan also opposed the teaching of evolution, supported immigration restrictions, and upheld patriotism and the purity of women. The Klan and other white terrorist groups directed their violence against black landowners, politicians, and community leaders, as well as whites that supported the Republican Party or racial equality. At the peak of its power they had several million members that all believed that America was being transformed into something they did not want and was threatening everything the believed in.American society was changing fast in the 1920’s. Women were more flamboyant, vocal and wanting equality symbolizing the “new woman”. The African American movement was becoming more radical and preaching more on racial pride. American was changing fast maybe to fast for some groups and too slow for others. Militant organizations like the Negro Improvement Association, the Klu Klux Klan, American Legion, National Woman’s Party sprang up to voice and fight for their view on how America should change and in some instances not. ...
