Because soma is the perfect drug, it can be used for anything and the government does; it passes it out to lower classes as a reward, it sprays revolt with soma spray to calm them down, uses it as a medicine, and its used in many other instances. In this book, happiness is viewed as the key to stability. Soma enforces this too, One cubic centimeter cures ten gloomy sentiments,(54). There is one instance of soma-abuse though. This exception to the majority shows that the governments methods of stability are not completely effective. Because of the caste system and hypnopaedia, no member of the Brave New World questions Fords authority. This allows him to become a tyrant of a totalitarian government that controls every aspect of ones life. During the 9 years war, it was established that rule cannot be through force, but that you rule with the brains and the buttocks, never with the fists,(49). Rule by force is comprised of an unstable society of angry individuals, rule with the brains is comprised of a stable society full made of one happy community of people. After the 9 years war, the people of a Brave New World creates their own new values and beliefs, replacing the old ones; Jesus and Christianity are replaced by Ford and efficiency. Through dialogue, the Director and Mustapha Mond resemble Jesus and his way of educating his followers. The Director tells a story to his students about a little boy named Reuben Rabinovitch. The story has a moral. It is spoken in a way as to little kids. His students sit around him, listening in silence with admiration. The Director is telling a parable to his students just as Jesus told stories with morals to his disciples. After finishing the story the Director made the sign of the T on his stomach and all the students reverently followed suit,(25).
