e instead.Right away, his relationship with his son is exposed. He is angry with his son, Biff, for not wanting to be what Willy wants him to be. Willy thinks that his son would be a good business man, but Biff does not want to be anything along those lines, nor does he want to live at home, where his father wants him to. At the beginning of the play, it is also exposed that Willy is becoming insane and talks to himself. He has these flashbacks of his life years ago and he believes that these events are really happening when he is having the flashback. Linda also tells her sons that she has found evidence that Willy is contemplating suicide. He is probably contemplating this because his family is poor, and with his insurance, he is worth more dead than alive.In A Raisin in the Sun, Walters dream is for himself to support the family, to make his family rich. In Death of a Salesman, Willys dream is for his son. His dream is for his son to have the success that he does not have. This is one way that the two plays handled the desire for the American dream differently. Once Biff realizes what has happened to his dad, he is convinced that if he fulfilled what his dad dreamed for him, that his dad would have his sanity. He decides that he is going to talk to one of his old bosss, Bill Oliver to see if he can get a job in sales. His brother, Happy encourages this, and says that he will go into the business with Biff. This is similar to Lena giving Walter the money. Both Lena and Biff are doing something that they dont really want to do, in order to make someone else content. They are scared that if they dont, it will lead to the demise of someone they care about.Later on in Death of A Salesman, Willy asks his boss Howard if he can stay in New York to sell shoes.
