d of Part 1 of Great Expectations can trace most of the changes in Pip traced back to Miss Havisham and Estella. After going to Miss Havisham’s house, Pip realizes that he has been living a common life, and he no longer feels comfortable at home. He also meets Estella, and he seems to fall in love with her. Because of the comments Estella makes about Pip being a “common, laboring boy”, Pip decides that he wants to change, and become learned. He believes that if he becomes educated, he will be a step closer to becoming a gentleman, and then Estella will fall in love with him....
