Laertes and Hamlet

d Hamlet associate with their family members by the way of their personality. Laertes highly respects and loves his father Polonius. Similarly, Hamlet holds a great respect for his dead father also. After the deaths of their fathers, both Hamlet and Laertes attempt to seek revenge on the killers. This shows how important their fathers were to them and going to the extreme of killing someone shows their love. Hamlet and Laertes attitude towards females are very demanding. Laertes gives Ophelia, guidance on her relationship with Hamlet. In the same way, Hamlet is able to convince Gertrude he is not mad and controls her to follow his instructions. Hamlet directs his mother to convince Claudius of Hamlets madness. Hamlet is able to make his mother think about her part in the death of his father and feel guilt (“Thou turn’st mine eyes into my very soul, and there I see such black and grained spots as will not leave their tinct.”) (Act 3, Scene 4. Claudius as Hamlets stepfather and Polonius as Laertes father both create a plan to spy on their sons to gain some information. Claudius employed Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to gather information on Hamlet. In comparison, Polonius sends Reynaldo to check up on Laertes. Hamlet and Laertes share similar aspects within their families.“The families of Laertes and Hamlet posses similar attributes. Hamlet and Laertes hold a high admiration for their fathers and are willing to even kill the king to enact revenge. Both characters exercise a dominating attitude toward females. In conclusion, although adversaries, Hamlet and Laertes share several characteristics which make the similar.” (Mark W. Scott p.g77)Hamlets love for Ophelia strengthened throughout the play because from the lack of love from his mother.
