Laertes and Hamlet

d think that since Gertrudes husband has died that she would have a time of mourning but instead decide to marry his brother Claudius. This is another example on how depending Hamlet was for Ophelia’s love. The fact that Laertes mom is not presence in the play makes him very caring for his sister and for the only woman he can show love for. Hamlets love for Ophelia makes Laertes concerned on how that is going to affect his sister and shows how much he feels for her relationships.Laertes and Hamlet both present a deferent reaction to their father’s death. Once Laertes discovers his father has been murdered, he immediately assumes the killer is Claudius. As a result of Laertes’ suspicion, he quickly moves to avenge Polonius’ death. (“To hell, allegiance! Vows, to the blackest devil!….; only I’ll be revenged most thoroughly for my father.”) (Act 4, Scene 5). Unlike Laertes, Hamlet decides to wait to revenge his father’s dead. Instead of just killing Claudius as soon as he could he decided to let all the people in the castle find out about the tragic event by producing a play“Laertes and Hamlet each kill his father’s killer, while each forgives, and is forgiven by, his own killer. Yet at the close of the play he regrets his underhandedness, offers forgiveness of place of vengeance, and is himself forgiven.” (Charles Boyce)Even though Hamlet is told by the ghost of his father to kill Claudius as soon as possible, Hamlets love for his father makes him more sinister, and allows him to make a perfect plan to a murder. Laertes is so upset with what has happened since he has left makes him angrier. The fact that Hamlet is the only one who knows who killed his father makes everything more secretive to where people know who has killed Polonius.
