Laertes and Hamlet

w who killed Polonius it made Laertes more concerned on avenging his father’s death.Hamlet and Laertes behavior becomes very awful when they are angry or upset. Hamlet becomes mad at the fact of Claudius spying on him, which results in Hamlet accidentally killing Polonius. Laertes becomes extremely angered at the death or his father and seeks vengeance against Claudius.“As an avenger, Laertes is easily manipulated by the King who dissuades him from his rebellion with smooth talk about the divine right of kings. He gives no thought to honor as he accepts with grim glee the King’s suggestion of a rigged fencing match, adding the idea of poisoning his sword. Moreover, he is thoughtlessly prepared to sacrifice the peace of the country and his own “Conscience and grace, to the profoundest pit!/ I dare damnation he bellows – to satisfy his rage.” (Act 4 scene 5).” (Charles Boyce) The amount of information that both Laertes and Hamlet have received caused them to react in a violent way. When Laertes comes home he is informed that the father in whom he highly respects has been killed, and his sister is going crazy. With all this information coming to him at once gets him into a violent state of mind. This is also, which promotes him in quickly avenging his father’s death. Hamlets rash behavior shows bits in pieces throughout the play. His patients gave him time to avenge his father’s death in the way he feels is right. His behavior towards his mother and Claudius show how important and timely his plan is. Both Laertes and Hamlets behavior is violent due to the events surrounding them.
