Billy Pilgrim: Nutcase, Saint, or both? Billy is a nut, he’s just plain bonkers. For started Billy has a history of mental problems he has been institutionalized twice. The first time was when he father died this was while he was in training, before he went off to war. The second time was when he came back from the war. Plus he had the head injury from the plane crash. He only started talking about the Tralfamadorians after the plane. And it’s odd that every thing about the Tralfamadorians is from those good old Kilgore Trout novels. Now remember Billy first started to read Trout’s novels when he committed himself, this was second time he was in the nut house it was after the war. The whole notion of time, the zoo, even the looks of the creatures were all in Trout’s novels.Now Billy’s life has been quite stressful, losing his father at such a young age and in the middle of a war. Then after this father’s death Billy actually had to go off to war. And his wife, I mean she was no Marilyn Monroe and it wasn’t like he was in love with her. Billy only married the girl because she had money and her father owned the School of Optometry in which Billy went to. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that he wouldn’t have trouble finding a job he was set for life. Billy even knew he was crazy to be asking her. Isn’t it odd that Billy’s “Time Traveling” only happens in stressful situations and moments? Billy seems to have no control over it. It seems like whenever things take a turn for the worst Billy “time travels” to Tralfamador to get away from it all. In Tralfamador all of his needs are taken care of. Tralfamador is a fantasyland for Billy’s. On Tralfamador Billy has this knockout wife, Montana. Yet Montana “on Earth” is a porno star, and Billy found out about her while in New York City at a porno bookstore. The whole wife...
