The Effect Parallelism has on the American Dream

h his military career over, he goes to New York City to seek his fortune in the advertisement business in order to marry the lovely Zelda. Unwilling to wait and live on his small salary, she ends their engagement. His quest for love at this point in time is distancing itself from him, thus, he realizes that the only way to achieve his dream of love is to become wealthy. As a result of this desire of wealth, he begins writing and finally publishes a book called This Side of Paradise. With the completion of this book he is practically made famous overnight and becomes very wealthy. Within a week Zelda and Fitzgerald are happily wed. Thus, at this point in time, Fitzgerald fully develops the authentic definition of the American Dream through wealth and power, one can acquire happiness.Along with Fitzgeralds own definition of the American Dream, he creates the American Dream of Jay Gatsby. Just like Fitzgeralds main focus is on Zelda, Gatsbys American Dream revolves around Daisy Fay, a young, beautiful girl who comes from big money. Throughout the story, Gatsby spends the majority of his time in pursuit of Daisy. Although, in order for her to love him, he must first come in contact with an innumerous amount of wealth. As a result of Daisys need for wealth, money is thus added to the great American Dream of Jay Gatsby. His need for wealth exceeds his love for Daisy at this point in time because without money, his true American Dream of having Daisy could never come true. And then, once his wealth was acquired, he was able again to concentrate on his love alone for Daisy Buchanan. Next, Gatsby, like Fitzgerald, was also required to go to war at one point in the story although he did not actually want to go. And while he is fighting the war in Germany, he frequently writes letters to Daisy telling her to wait for him but, unable and unwilling to live on his cheap lifestyle, she marries into the enormously wealthy family of Tom B...
