The Rise and Fall of Jimmy Hoffa

of the words Hoffa was finally found guilty. Kennedy had finally succeeded in achieving his goal. Partin’s testimony against Hoffa was extremely damaging. He testified with the knowledge of jury tampering by Hoffa. He claimed Hoffa selected the jurors that would be convinced into voting not guilty for the charges against Hoffa. Partin said all Hoffa cared for was a hung jury as the government would never bring such small charges to trial for a second time. Partin mentioned Hoffa’s disgust when Hoffa’s aides were unable to secure jurors or unable to gain insurance jurors. This damaging testimony coupled with the public’s knowledge of Hoffa’s shady character did not sit well with the jury. With Partin seeming to be a model citizen to the jury, it seems unconceivable that Hoffa would walk away from the charge against him. Kennedy finally achieved the goal he set out to accomplish. After over five years of continuously throwing something at the wall, he got one to stick. He wasted his years as an investigator on the McClellan Committee and Attorney General to settle a personal vendetta. He wasted millions of tax dollars in surveillance and prosecution of minor charges that no other sane Attorney General would take a second glance at. The conviction seemed flimsy and the Teamstersk knew it. The members continued to support and want Hoffa as their president. Kennedy saw the Teamsters as a threat to the nation with Hoffa in charge and used all means possible to remove a man with more power than the President in terms of domestic trade. With Hoffa on his way out, the Teamsters were dealt a huge setback in terms of their operations and leadership. The man who lived hi life for the union, was going to jail. The underground connections that he had maintained throughout his tenure in Teamsters position finally came back to haunt him.
