Hitler felt that Germany was punished too severely in the Treaty of Versailles. When Hitler came into power he brought Germany out of their depression and reduced unemployment. After their defeat in World War One, the Germans had lost all confidence in their country. As Hitler restored nationalism in Germany, he also restored their willingness to go back to war. Hitler and the Nazi party used fear and deception as a weapon against the League of Nations. They would promise not to remilitarize and then turn around and break their promise to the League of Nations. In direct defiance of the Treaty of Versailles, Hitler sent 35,000 troops into the Rhineland. The disarmament talks started in 1922 but finally ended when Hitler withdrew from the League in 1933. When it became clear that Germany would not return to the table to discuss disarmament, the talks collapsed and rearmament in Europe began again. Britain and France wanted to stop Germany from expanding economically and physically anymore so they appeased Hitler and let him rearm. It seemed these nations were too frightened of the totalitarian state to protest Germanys breaking of the Versailles Treaty. Britain and France did not realize that by appeasing Hitler they were only adding fuel to his fire of world dominance. Britain and France needed to take action against Hitler because “ if the League does not succeed in securing peace and justice, then the whole system by which right was meant to replace might will collapse” As Britain and France did band-aid work to the problems in Europe, Hitler was gaining enough power to launch the world into another major war.
