A Day At the Fair

It is Thursday, August 24th, the opening day of the Minnesota State Fair. I am here with my family, a friend and his mom, and one of my sisters friends. It seems so long since last years fair. I always look forward to the state fair, even though its pretty much the same every year. We park at the same mans house every year. His house is right behind the mini-donut stand on midway parkway, across the street from the main gate. As we pull into his driveway, I feel a pang of excitement run through me, and when I get out, I can smell it. The smell is familiar, distinctive. When the telltale aroma wafts into my nostrils, I remember why come to this thing every year. We walk over to the main gate and through the enormous blue and green arches. The streets are swarming with people, and, to my left, the red, white and blue cab on the space tower is going up and down on its relentless twelve-day trek. We head in the general direction of the Food Building. As I walk, I see Saint Bernards Dining Hall and the Merchandise Mart on my left, and the Farmers Union building and the Culligan booth on my right. The food building itself is ahead on my left. We enter the Food Building, and as we do, it seems as if a wall of heat hits me. The Food Building is always hot because of all of the ovens they use. Some delicacies include Spudzza (potato pizza), gyros, falafels, and more. The world famous cheese curd booth is also located here. As I browse the aisles, the smells of deep-fried goodness waft into my nostrils. My favorite booth is the Cheese-Filled Italian Loaves booth. I go there and get a sandwich. The Grandstand is the largest building at the fair. It consists of three portions: The main building, the East Room, and the stadium. The stadium is where all the concerts are held.
