From this, it is quite evident that Casimir would do anything for the people whom he had rule over. Among the lower class, he was referred to as king of the peasants. When famine plagued Poland, he shared his food and shelter with all of his subjects, not letting them starve. During the persecution of Jews, Casimir allowed them to take refuge among Poland and be safe from the German Nazi troops. He extended his fellowship, and that of the countrys, to others who were not native but in need of assistance. From his genuine concern of the people, he was not only respected as the King of Poland, but he was respected as a unique and sincere individual. Many were grateful for what he had done, and he served to be one of the best kings Poland would see.Also under his rule, Casimir built the first Polish University stationed in Cracow, Poland. In 1364, when it was constructed, it was called the Cracovian Academy, later renamed the Jagiellonian University. This educational monument was to be solely for studying law, so that in turn, those whom had attended the college would eventually be able to defend their king as a great legislator. Although only the first built in Poland, it was only the second opened in the entire central Europe. This showed just how far along Poland was advancing with its culture and yet still, Casimir was not quite finished rebuilding Poland. He constructed it in gothic form, with white stone, to show how much he valued the future and how much promise it had. The Roman Catholic Church made gains under Casimirs leadership.
