He sent reinforcements to the Pope during the Italian War; he allied with Valdemar Atterdag of Denmark, and that together with some Scandinavian kings, was named the protector of the archbishops in Riga. Finally, he also intervened with the affairs of the principality of Moldavia. During his reign, he held a political congress meeting in Cracow, to discuss another kings wishes of a new Crusade. Casimir arbitrated between two opposing sides, discussing the differences and helped make a compromise. Politically, this is what made Casimir stand out. His ability to be neutral to both sides and yet be fair, granting each side certain gains, made him known to most of Europe as a great king.Casimir was to be married three times before his death; however, he was unsuccessful in producing a male heir. He then left his throne to his nephew, Louis of Hungary. By doing this, it has been said to be the price of the Hungarian alliance between Hungary and Poland.Casimir had accomplished many outstanding achievements throughout his reign as king of Poland. It has been drawn that his title as Casimir, The Great, was a most fitting title for a king of such stature. From his help on his political standpoints and his help and assure of the well-being of domestic Poland, it is quite clear: Casimir was one of Polands finest kings, one who not only cared about his political and economical popularity, but thrived among the popularity of all of his subjects throughout Poland....
