I know that if someone killed one of my family members, the only way I would be able to rest safely, is if I knew the killer was dead. Also, I surveyed 20 people around my hall, just to get a feel of how other people felt on this issue. Out of the 20, 18 people agreed that they would want the person to be put to death if that person murdered a family member. The other two people were against it because they said it was not morally right to use the death penalty.Other forms of rehabilitation that have been brought about are teaching an inmate a trade so that he can become a more productive member of society. Or guaranteeing the inmate a job for when they get out of prison. These are not effective forms of punishment because the prisoner will not feel like they were punished, and it will not deter future crimes. I had asked one of my friends who knows a prison guard, and he told me that the inmates do not really feel like they are being punished. The inmates make friends with other inmates, and surprisingly enough, the prisoners make friends with the guards. By making various acquaintances, inmates get things such as drugs and alcohol. This is certainly not how I would want a murderer to spend his life sentence. On a television program that I watched recently, inmates stated that their jail time is a joke. On of the prisoners called it a lifelong vacation.
