nd a wave of silence hovers over them as the band starts playing. I can feel the tension from the players as they stand in silence. Looking at them, I can see the steam rise from their heads, from warming-up. I can feel the muggy, warm air, the stickiness on my skin like dried syrup all over my body. As the band brings the anthem to an end, the football players run out to the middle of the field, like a herd of animals. It’s now time for the game to start. The crowd starts cheering, and we all line up to get ready for the kick-off. The referee blows his whistle. Time for the night to begin. As the kicker kick the ball, I can hear the crowd roaring and the players hitting each other with their pads. The other cheerleaders sound like mice screaming at each other, they’re not together, and they all look like 20 ants running around. The coaches are yelling at the players as they run out to the field. The players are calling out plays as if they really know what plays they are calling out. The band is playing in the background, trying to play our school fight song and “My Girl”. As I look at the scoreboard the clock runs down 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 half time. It’s time for us to do our thing now. We line up in our formation, and get ready to start our routine. As I look up at the stands, everyone is watching us, as we get ready to perform. I can feel the butterflies in my stomach, as I stand there waiting for the captain to start the routine. Finally she calls ready. We go though our routine so smoothly. There are no flaws and the crowd loves it. Finally, our routine comes to a close. As we finish, the crowd is cheering for us, as they look at us in amazement. Once we finish our routine, we go up to the concession stand and grab us a hot bowl of chili and a cup of hot chocolate. We hurry back down to the field as we stuff our faces with chili.
