I guess it is hard to configure between these two conclusions, but in my mind, poetry should be real, and life is does normally not have happy endings. It shows us that faith may exist and bring us great opportunities but at the same time, faith can only bring you so far and when a chance comes along it is up to you to take it. This is a beautiful poem in many ways. It masters the art of using metaphors with such lines as with the fingers tide and live as a salmon. It also used similes to describe detail; my favorite one is Her legs swam by like lovely trout. “From the Hazel Bough” has a lovely flowing rhythm, along with constant rhyming, ear candy for the on looking reader. It truly uses all the aspects of poetry that I love. In my mind, this poem would make a beautiful song, which is the most beautiful form of poetry. Poetry tells us stories that make us think. That’s the magic of it. I’m sure we can all relate to this specific poem in one-way or another. It may not be an experience where we crossed paths with a possible soul mate, but we have all had instances of where faith has taken us to the next level and because of fears and inhibitions, we could not go through with it. By paraphrasing each line, it doesn’t show the true meaning of a poem of this stature.
