labor that there can be no production. Without production there can be no free market enterprise. Americans have a varied lifestyle, some value tangibles more than the intangibles and, visa versa. Our government requires a certain level of charity through taxes, but it’s common that people give more than what is required through donations. Symbolic InteractionismSelf concepts Mexican and AmericanOne’s self concept is always changing. However the big part of one’s self concept is built during their teen years. How the people you care about most determine what you think of yourself. It’s their reactions to your behaviors that seem to matter most. In Mexican culture the opinions of the family are most valued. In American culture family doesn’t carry the same weight as friends. A Mexican teenager is very closed to people outside the family, because of a lack of trust. Because they don’t trust one another they are careful not to show their true selves. They often put on a false front to people outside their family. Emotions are reserved for loving parents or siblings. Friends are valued but those relationships are mostly counterfeit. In the sense that they have to be reserved and secretive. Thus the feed back from family is of great value, and contributes a great deal to one’s self -concept. American teens are more likely to hide things from their families, and confide in there close friends. The American teenager generally tries to isolate themselves from the family as much as possible. They will retreat to their rooms behind a closed door, many hours will be spent on the phone talking with friends. They put so much energy into relationships with their peers that it is the major influence of their self concept. I remember my parents not knowing a thing about me for many years.
