ness. Several programs are available to students who are financially at risk but want to stay in school. Consult your school counselor if money problems might cause you to drop out of school. The Summer Aid Program, The Stay in School program, and the Federal Junior Fellowship program are all curriculums to help kids stay in school and receive the proper education that they deserve (Hurwitz 5).Creating a support system is another way to stop homelessness. A support system is a network of individuals or groups in your life who help you to work toward your goals. These people assist you in setting goals, increasing your confidence, and learning new skills. If you are homeless or near homelessness a support system cam be extremely beneficial to you. The people in your network offer emotional support in good times and in bad and they can also help you find a job, continue your education, and develop your talents. Many people don’t have a strong support system. Without a network of people around you, you will not be able to meet all of your needs (Hurwitz 5). You may feel without direction, lonely, frustrated, and homeless. But you can and should build a strong support system for yourself.To avoid from being homeless you must concentrate on improving your education, and job skills. Focus on getting help for any health or mental problems. If your reading and writing skills are limited, ask about literacy programs at your shelter. You can also ask at your library or nears elementary school. Tutoring or literacy classes can help you improve your marketable skills. Organization such as Literacy Volunteers of America can help you improve your reading skills free of charge (Hurwitz 3). The elementary school in your neighborhood may have a community program for literacy or be able to direct you to an agency that does have one.
