was astonished of the slang words that were being used to describe other people of different ethnicity or color and the dramatic use of gratuitous violence to convey emotion and realism to the show. As well as with The Sopranos' program there was a strong use of speech communities that clearly stood apart from the other shows because of their identifiable slang words that dominate the harsh environment within the inner city. Many of the show's characters have strained relationships with either their partners or their personal families that ultimately overlap into their professional lives. A common thread that this show continuously touched on, was its use of specific style of language that seemed to be only appreciated by those in uniform. Acronyms and codes were constantly thrown around in a harsh and fast paced setting that made me feel that I was right there on the streets with real police officers sharing stale donuts and coffee.I am enthusiastic about starting this exercise for the obvious reasons of watching some astounding episodes of award winning programs that seek not only to entice and provoke the audience, but to draw the viewer in emotionally as well. Part #2There is a tremendous amount of enjoyment that can be derived while watching television shows, especially when it comes to my two favorite programs The Sopranos and N.Y.P.D. Blue. It is very difficult to accommodate the required time to view these programs with my heavy work schedule, however being able to balance my time with watching such programs has become very rewarding.To watch my favorite shows I referred to my trusty TV Guide and begun to strategize my assault. The Sopranos in on HBO, Sunday 8pm and N.Y.P.D. Blue is on ABC, Tuesdays 9pm. Both of the programs attempt to illustrate through harsh language and violent scenes the reality behind today's police and criminals.
