n life they won’t have any medical problems.NUTRITON AND HOW IT CAN PREVENT DISEASESNutrition is an everyday thing that people take lightly. They believe that it won’t affect them one way or another. But it does. The first step in healthy nutrition should be to follow the food pyramid. It consists of (1) bread, cereal, pasta, rice; (2) vegetables; (3) fruits; (4) milk, yogurt and cheese; and (5) meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts. A sixth group (fats, oils, and sweets) should be eaten in moderation. “ By law, most food labels now must display a Nutrition Facts panel containing information about how the food can fit into an overall daily diet. Nutrition Facts state how much saturated fat, cholesterol, fiber, and certain nutrients are contained in each serving” (Losing Weight Safely, ‘3). How many servings should you eat? “6-11 servings from the bread and pasta group daily. 2-3 servings of fruit, 3-5 servings of vegetables, and 2-3 servings of meat. And don’t eat very much from the top of the pyramid, since they have no nutritional value” (Promoting good nutrition, “3). There are exceptions to the servings of the food pyramid. Different types of people need different things and different amounts of calories. “Women who are not active and some older adults should eat the lower amount servings in each food group. Children, teenage girls, active women, and most men should eat the middle number of servings each day. Teenage boys and active men should eat the higher number of servings each day. If you want to lose weight, you should eat the lower amount of servings and choose foods that have less fat and fewer calories. If you wish to gain weight, you should eat the higher number of servings in each group and eat foods that have more fat and higher calories such as whole milk” (Promoting good nutrition, “3).
