to hate, whether it be Othello or his own mother. Iago hates for his own sport and profit. thus understand this concept of Iago puts a whole new spin on the evil which consumes him. He doesnt act evil, Iago is Evil. It is Evil which entertains Iago, and the town of Venice is the stage.Characters in the play are the puppets in Iagos theater. He will work their minds against each other and let their bodies take action of their own. Evil begins with a thought, a suspicion. Iago creates that thought Hes done my office. I know not ift be true;But I, for mere suspicion in that kind,Will do as if for surety.(1.3.367-369) Anything is possible, Cassio could be laying with Desdemona. Iago does not know that this is false, but he surely does not know if it is true. He will act as if it is true, to him it is true.He holds me well;The better shall my purpose work on him.(1.3.370) Iago is frequently called upon as Honest Iago. The trust he holds in everyones eyes, especially Othellos, is what will give him the ability to conger up any plot he can. There is no reason to not believe him. The trust that Iago posses is very essential. Without trust Iago has absolute no power, yet with trust his power is unstoppable. After some time, to abuse Othellos ear(1.3.374) Iago states that he will deceive Othello, but he uses the word abuse. What he is really abusing is Othellos trust. Once he has embedded the suspicion of Cassio being with Desdemona, Iago will be able to led (1.3.380) Othello with his trust, which by that time will have grown due to the lack of trust in Cassio and Desdemona.Shakespeares work is entertaining on the surface, but can get quite disturbing once looked upon with a deeper insight.
