d ultimately at the end most everybody is dead, end of story. But that is only on the surface. The words and phrases Shakespeare uses are carefully chosen to make a point. But for my sport and profit, I hate the moor(1.3.365). This one line of the five act play changes the whole moral of the story. Without it Iago is just mean and selfish, but with he is - Evil. The evil is like an addiction to Iago. He starts out merely causing mischief. But throughout the play the mischief grows and grows . Like any addiction the more you get the more you want, until ultimately the addiction consumes the addict. Iagos evil spreads like wildfire to the entire cast and finally reaches himself. Now before you judge Iago, let me present something to you. The audiences went to Shakespeares plays for entertainment. After finishing the play we have realized that Iago created all the problems for one reason, his own enjoyment, his entertainment. He presents a problem and sits back and watches the out come. The only thing he is lacking is the box of popcorn. The play is his play. Now how is this different from the audience watching the play? They paid money to go watch this man cause pain and havoc to everyone for their own entertainment. Is the audience and different that Iago?Works CitedShakespeare, William. Othello.
