A moment ago I mention that Paul places his faith on his rocking horse but it is also on his uncle that gives him motivation to continue betting on horses.Before uncle Oscar, Bassett, and Paul became partners uncle Oscar had a chat with the boy and was impressed by the boy's luck and how he believe in it. "Oh, well, sometimes I'm absolutely sure, like about Daffodil," said the boy; "and sometimes I have an idea; and sometimes I haven't even an idea, have I, Bassett? Then we're careful, because we mostly go down." Again the boy demonstrates intuition along with doubt because since he bases his luck on pure cold faith. It is clear to the boy that he cannot just trust his luck completely and Paul is aware of occult presents around him. This manifests his ability to reason as well as the consequences of what he has gotten into. Intense betting had begun and Paul latter reveals his uncle why he had started taking such risk. Paul tells his uncle about the whispering that goes around the house and how much it troubled. "I shouldn't like mother to know I was lucky" (305) Right here it appears to Paul that he does not only wants to hide his gambling but also some other secret because he does not want his mother to know he is a lucky person.The uncle and his nephew had agree to do so and decided to deposit five thousand pounds to the family lawyer and that way Paul's mother would had money secure every year on her birth day. One morning Paul stood afar and watch his mom receive her every day mail and as she found out that she was going to be getting a part of the money each year she got upset because she wanted all the money. The mother insist to the lawyer if she could get the money at once instead of parts and Paul decided to give her mother all the money. The whispering continued since her mother was on debt and Paul's luc...
