realizing that he will die regardless of what happens in the future allows him to assess the immediate situation with a calm and controlled mind, and therefore, act righteously.Although Hamlet has attained a much more stable mindset at this point, he is still deeply involved a very complicated situation because if he is to go to heaven, he must not subject himself to the elements of evil. However, being immersed in an evil society makes this quite a difficult task. It is obvious that the King would love nothing more than to have Hamlet killed. It is also apparent that Claudius is only concerned with his own well-being. Therefore, since it is an evil villain that Hamlet is contending with, it is exceedingly difficult for him to remain pure and rise above evil. Although he longs to avenge the demise of his father by killing Claudius, murder is a sinful act and Hamlet must strive to remain virtuous in his ways. If he fails to remain virtuous, he once again falls into a state of internal conflict. However, if Hamlet, with his new mindset, is able to stay focused and overcome the elements of evil, he resultantly goes to heaven.By the end of the play, although Hamlet suffers a rather untimely and unnatural death, he undoubtedly triumphs, as do all tragic heroes when met by their final defeat. Hamlet triumphs in that, with his head and heart united in the sacred union of hierosgamos, he escapes his “psychological prison” of entrapment and thus, goes to heaven. But this is no easy feat for Hamlet. In fact, from the very beginning, as a victim of fate, he has numerous obstacles thrown in front of him, which he must overcome in order to not only settle his own raging emotions, but also to seek justice for his father’s death and rise above evil.
