The investigation took a major spin when Ted Bundy posing as a police officer approached a woman by the name of Carol DaRonch on The 8th of November of 1974. He claimed to have seen a man try to break into her car. Ted asked Carol to come down, with him, to the station to file a report. While on the way to the station, in Bundy’s light colored Volkswagon, Carol became very suspicious of Bundy, Bundy soon tried to handcuff her but after struggling for a while Carol was able to break lose and run away. Reporting the incident to the police, Carol was able to supply the investigators with another accurate description of Ted and his vehicles. On August 16, 1975, Utah highway patrolman Bob Hayward was performing his normal patrol duties when he spotted a suspicious tan VW bug. Knowing the neighborhood pretty well, he decided to turn on his lights to get a better look at the plates, when he did this the bug turned off his headlight and speed away, speeding through two red lights he finally before finally coming to an stop. The patrol began to question the driver and soon begin to search the vehicle. While searching the car the officer found a crowbar, ski mask, rope, handcuffs, wire and an ice pick. Officer Hayward then called his brother in law who use to be part of the Ted Task Force. Listening to the evidence the officer’s came to the conclusion that the evidence was linked to the attempted kidnapping of Carol DaRonch. Carol and other witnesses were brought down to identify Bundy in a line up. The line up was a success every victim and witness identified Bundy from the line up. As the investigation continued more evidence was bought against Bundy that would lead to his apprehension and conviction.
