A very good example of this is the rap song by rapper Ice-T titled Cop Killer. This song is a fictional one that portrays violence towards policeman as a result of police brutality. This created much controversy in itself. Police groups felt threatened by the song, believing that it promoted the killing of police officers. However, there has been no direct link found between anti-social behavior and exposure to music or television. Contrary to popular belief, the source of inspiration for most crimes, according to convicted criminals, has been the bible. (Music, 3) One might get the idea for committing assault from the story of David and Goliath. In the bible there are many stories of killings, and assault, such as David and Goliath. Also, some convicted sex offenders believe that the bible gives them the right to have sexual relations, and if a girl is unwilling, they make them have sex. People associate violence with television and radio, but songwriters, and movie producers get their inspiration from real life. Every night on the news, you can see reports of murders, wars, rape, child abductions, and other forms of violence. How can covering Americas ears and eyes suppress violent crime? Moreover, if this were the solution, where would it end? Until violence is removed from our society, there is no sense in removing it from various forms of entertainment. Censorship is a way of controlling the actions of the people. However, censorship is clearly not necessary. The television programs you watch, music you listen to, and books you read are choices.
