This song was banned in many countries, and is still considered inappropriate to sing in schools. It mentions that we have a right to the pursuit of happiness. Censorship affects happiness. In order to make themselves happy, some Americans watch television. However censors prevent some material from being seen. In 1983, a Baptist Youth Minister by the name of Roger Wilcher petitioned the city of Emporia, Virginia to remove the popular music station MTV (Music Television) from the local cable system). Also, in Utah, an apartment complex owner banned MTV from his tenants apartments. He claimed that the music videos were pornographic, but he later admitted that he had never seen a music video. (A Brief1980s, 2,3) Under the Declaration of Independence, we are guaranteed Liberty, or freedom. This means that we have the freedom to watch any program we wish, no matter how others feels about it. Taking away television station because a few people feel it isnt holy or appropriate for them is a violation of that right.
