It is clear that he is in torment due to her death, and because he himself does the deed. He condemns himself not for his rashness or judgmental faults, but rather for the murderous sin he commits as he reflects upon his sorrow of one whose hand, /threw a pearl away (V, ii, 404).It is during the first couple of acts that one learns of Macbeths dependence on Lady Macbeth and her great ability to motivate him. In everything he does, she is there in one way or another. She is truly in control and he is but a simple pawn in her game. Through her evil persona, she manipulates Macbeth in order to fulfill her own desires. Lady Macbeth comments that her husband is too weak to strive for the crownYet do I fear thy nature. It is too full o the milk of human kindness To catch the nearest way. Thou wouldst be great; Art not without ambition(I, v, 16-19). Macbeths ambition is derived directly from Lady Macbeth. She continuously taunts him for his lack of courage, and he strives to create himself anew to be the ruthless killer that he ultimately becomes. While reading Macbeth, one sees many examples as to how Lady Macbeth influences him. However, when one reads Othello, there are no such moments when Desdemona controls him. In fact, the only controlling person in the relationship is Othello. She is so smitten by him that she openly denounces her loyalty to her father in order to be the bride of Othello. Desdemona says to her father: I am hitherto your daughter. But heres my husband; And so much duty as my mother showed To you, preferring you before her father, So much I challenge that I may profess Due to the Moor my lord (I, iii, 203-207).Desdemona is willing to leave the life she has lived in order to fulfill the wishes of Othello.
