The characters reasoning for environmental justice is unclear due to the lack of fitting a conservationist description. Instead of presenting their concern for the unstoppable expansion in the western states in a more traditional manner such as meeting with city councilmen or forming talks at the city hall, discussing ways to prevent the destruction of virgin land, the thought of stopping construction by destroying machinery, removing stakes used by engineers for surveying of the land, and damaging bridges sounds more appealing to these people who want to be heard.
