Starhawk, activist of forty years and writer of Quebec City: Beyond Violence and Nonviolence, covers the chaos and confusion that occurred with protestors and police assigned to secure the area at the Quebec City anti-globalization conference. Starhawk states that activist have a right to express their diversity of tactics that the phrase itself does not conveythat people should be free to make their own choices, that a non-authoritarian movement doesnt tell people what to do, and that we should stand in solidarity even with people whose choices we disagree with(Starhawk 28). She believes it is every persons right to stand up for what he/she believes in, but to do so in a civil manner. Starhawk also adds that some of the ways people express their diversity of tactics is stupid and wrong (Starhawk 27). Because these people do not have much support, she believes that the little if any positive effects they may have on people is at risk. When approaching government officials with such environmental and political concerns, it is of clear importance to be understood. It is when activists take steps such as these in a civil manner, there cries will be heard and respected due to the appropriate form of communication used by liberals. Environmental justice is a strong subject used by many politics to gain the vote of few. The idea of having a governor or congressman as a direct voice of your cause is the most significant way in seeing results. With the power each political or average citizen holds, the political and environmental arena will acknowledge the fact that a problem exists. Service for our community and mother earth is every persons responsibility to do everything in his/her power to save what is so little left.
