. That a nation that basically lives on the water can have so little respect for its preservation disturbs me. If nothing is done soon the end of many of these animals will come very soon.Jan.11 Cetacean Social StructureToday we went to McGregor for the first time in a couple of days. The winds were pretty stiff, seas were not ideal for whale watching, and to make things worse my team got the broken theodolyte. Luckily we were able to find a pod relatively close to shore so we could make out their blows in the almost white capping waves. Our calculations and map looked pretty good. The whales didn’t move vary far and our map was pretty brief. All in all it was a pretty successful day of research.Lecture tonight was lead by team 9. They had the task of talking about the relationships between the humpback whale, other species of animal and associations with there own kind. What I found most interesting is that the humpback is one of the most non-social of all the whale species. The Cetacean animals include two groups, one consist of toothed whales called odontcetes the others are larger animals with baleen filled mouths are referred to as mysticetes. The odontcetes tend to be the more social, while the strongest and only long term bond with mysticetes is between the mother and her calf.Jan. 12 McGregor the wind tunnel part 2Today we went back to the point at McGregor. Upon leaving the hotel for our afternoon research session the weather seemed nice and calm. Once we arrived at the point, things changed rapidly. The wind was high the waves were white capping, and spotting a whale was near impossible with the weather conditions. I have a strong feeling that our map and data for the day will not look to pretty.Lecture tonight is another discussion lead by team 3. The topic of this discussion is on the humpback back whale research in Hawaii. Now that I know the group that is leading this discussion I know some thing w...
