Entering into the early seventies the introduction to a new genre of rock was begging to emerge, the name of this new genre was Punk Rock.Punk rock is loud aggressive music that is performed usually by young artist that tend to lack in musical skills. This is not to say that all punk rockers are bad musicians, but for the most part the originators of this music genre were as loud and obnoxious as possible. As crude and unrefined as the punk rockers music may have seemed, they are considered to be one of the forefathers of the alternative rock genre. Punk rock was a great influence on the creation of the alternative music genre, but alternative rocks genre blossom on January 1, 1992.January 1, 1992 a small band with three members released new sound of music that unbeknownst to them would create a new music genre, the bands name was Nirvana. Nirvanas sound incorporated all of the traditional elements of rock music including the 3use of the electric guitar and heavy drum beats. Their band was very simple, three musicians, a drummer, bassist, and a lead guitar that was also the singer. Soon after the arrival of Nirvana to the music seen, many new bands with the same sounds began to gain popularity. The collaboration of these bands created a new genre of music that was once called grunge music, and is now called alternative. This is important because these are the characteristics that created the music genre that is played on the radio station KWOD 106.5.
