Every cyclist in the tour belongs to a team. A team is more than just the cyclists themselves. A team is comprised of a coach or coaches, bicycle mechanics, cooks, cyclists, and a team physician. (You can go on briefly explaining the roles of each like….A coach takes care of the workouts and daily routines, etc??? The bicycle mechanics obviously repair and fix the bikes; but they are also at the race as the cyclists ride, in case they need roadside assist. Moreover, as cyclist attempt to complete a stage race, each team is supported by a vehicle, which carries spare tires, extra bikes, first aid kit, and food and drinks when needed. Where as the team physician would know each cyclist team member’s medical history and is there when medical problems occur. Each team has a leader,who is known to be the best all-around cyclist. The other teammates, also known as “domestiques,” help and give their support to the leader in many ways. Some of the responsibilities of the domestiques are shielding the leader from wind (which is also known as “drafting”), supply food and drinks as they ride, offer support to the leader while climbing hills(…how?? )and the most important is to go after cyclist who have broken from the main group(…why is that important????). One of the teams’ major support comes from their sponsors. The sponsors’ main purpose is for financial support. Majority of the teams are sponsored by big corporation such as the United States Postal Service, Power Bar, Trek, Project Rudy, (which are all sponsors for the United States’ team, known as “United States Postal Service Team” alone), etc. (…then you can go on about what the benfits are for being a sponsor…like advertisement ‘world wide’ for a world known race- is the main benefit, etc..)
