he was a top swimmer, which enabled him to enter many triathlons. In addition, he was on the Junior National Cycling team before he even graduated high school. During that time he had won the United States Amateur Championship; and everybody noticed that he would become someone great because he was young, strong, and talented. He was expected to win the tour in 1996, but his life changed after coughing up blood after a ride. Lance Armstrong saw the doctor and informed him that he was suffering from living. Several years later, after recovering from cancer, he defeated all odds and won the Tour de France 1999. During the Tour de France 2000, Lance has proven too many of his competitors that he is the best cyclist. A critical stage in the tour is the climbing stages that take place in the mountain; as soon as the cyclists rode up the mountains, it was pretty clear to the riders who was going to win as a result of Lance’s superior mental and physical strengths. Lance’s two main competitors were Jan Ullrich (…of the team/ or country????) and Marco Pantani (…of what team or country???), both who have won the tour within the past several years. Ullrich had the talent, but he could not get his act together when it mattered (…for example, or what do you mean???). Pantani, later in the race, dropped out from over exhaustion. Lance was the overallleader of twelve out of the twenty-one stages in the tour; which has not been done since Greg Lemond in 1993. Furthermore, he held the second fastest time during a time trial at 53.98 kilometers per hour. Lance Armstrong won the race with a lead time of five minutes and thirty-seven seconds. In the future, he will try to accomplish other races such as the 2000 Olympic Games, which are held in Sydney, Austraila.
