It can relieve muscle tension and yet it can also cause it. Music can shift our mood and change the way we think and feel (Lowenstein; Better 1).What exactly is music and how can it affect us? Music is nothing more than a form of expression that can touch people physically, mentally and emotionally. Have you ever listened to "Brahms Lullaby" and not felt sleepy or heard the Beetles sing "Twist and Shout" and not want to dance? It simply has that effect on people. I read somewhere that music is a facilitator for bringing physical responses and I think that is exactly true. It affects a persons brain in a way that enables one to feel the emotional effect, change the mental state, and react physically. That is whymusic is so commonly used in stress management (Martin 1).There are many different types of music that are used to calm and relieve stress. One of the most common methods is referred to as Holographic music. It is said to help a person master the body and the mind. It does this by triggering two parts of the brain through the music. The mind, body and emotions of the listener are actually shifted to different brainwave levels. A person's body begins to become similar to being in a state of advanced meditation or even vivid dreams. The body basically becomes deeply relaxed and is then able to relieve stress and think clearer.
