Every magazine, book, TV program, and movie creates this illusion of an ideal woman that all women should strive to be like. What makes this more sad and confusing is that women and girls are putting themselves through hell to try to live up to this. So because women are judged by their body and because society is so critical in this judging, women are separated from things that should be natural to them. Women judge their own body based on these set standards. These standards, in addition, are more likely than not set by men. In effect, women around the country are accepting what some men find sexually attractive and are rearranging their lives in order to fit this mold. It would not be acceptable for each woman to individually decide what she likes and feels comfortable with sexually. This form of alienation, I think, is one of the most oppressive for women. In our society sexuality is a very prevalent idea. If women are not allowed to decide how to express their own sexuality, then an important part of themselves as human beings is alienated.Reproductive freedom is a socialist feminist goal that I somewhat disagree with. In general, the thought of a woman choosing whether or not to have children and, if so, how many to have is a pretty good idea. However, socialist feminists believe it should totally and completely be the womans choice. They do not specify on the involvement of the community or the father in this decision. I personally know women who dream of having big families of eight or so kids. I also know women who hate the thought of having children at all.
