Napster Contravercy

From the writings of Burke I get the understanding that he believes that representation is done through the idea of symbols; symbol making, symbol using and He believes that we use language,that we use it best in a nonverbal way in which we allcan understand. And that language verbal or not is theessential key to all representations through any lensor idea. He also believed that we invented the idea ofanything to be negative and that we are what makesthings negative. Simply put; All things are good untilman makes it otherwise. And by using Burke's "lens" wecan look at the internet use of Napster and see howdifferent people have found different views of it andhow now some people deem Napster as bad or in anegative lens they see Napster.The Napster software, launched early in 1999, allowsinternet users to share and download MP3 filesdirectly from any computer connected to the Napsternetwork. The software is used by downloading a clientprogram from the Napster site and then connecting tothe network through this software, which allowssharing of MP3 files between all users connected tothe network. Napster does not condone copyrightinfringement, there is no opportunity in the softwareto stop this, or for royalties to be paid to the songbelongs to.The reaction from recording artists, record labelsand other music industry players has been varied, butprimarily anti-Napster. The first action to be takenagainst Napster was by the band Metallica. In April ofthis year, they sued Napster Inc for copyrightinfringement. The case was settled out of court whenNapster agreed to ban some 300,000 users who hadallegedly downloaded Metallica songs. Again in JuneNapster Inc was sued for copyright infringement by TheRecording Industry Association of America, a tradegroup representing the US recording industry, alleging"Napster is… enabling and encouraging the illegalcopying and distribution of copyrighted music".
