sis augments this ability to tailor the message. In a leadership role, knowing how people react to stimuli and what it takes to motivate them is an invaluable tool. I do a lot of athletic coaching, and in my experience, good coaches recognize that all players are different and an approach that works for one may not for another. Again, this is another area where I apply the language of accommodation to people and now with the greater knowledge of personality traits I will be even more effective. In the area of leadership, I have benefited form the study of servant leadership. I think that I have used many of these techniques in the past, but the comprehensive study put the whole package together. As I mentioned previously, In the Desert exercise, I quickly nominated someone to take the lead in scheduling a meeting time. I view this as an exercise in servant leadership. I saw what I thought was needed and instead of taking the authoritative reigns, I facilitated the need I saw being filled without my direct intervention. I see Servant leadership as a kind of constant undercurrent guiding the group in healthy directions, but as a mostly unseen force. I seem to be coming back to the same common thread over and over again, but the work in unit 14 regarding roadblocks to communication I also found helpful. I see the common thread there because I again am lead to the importance of speaking to people in terms that they can accept, which takes us back to knowing our audience and using accommodating language. There was other important information in that unit as well.The work in Unit 17 on conflict resolution I also found particularly helpful. I found Weeks Eight Essential Steps to be useful. I plan to hang on to that handout for use a later time. It utilizes an effective method for resolving and clarifying the factors in conflict.To conclude, I have enjoyed this course very much.
