archeological finds that prove the existence of different places throughout the Old and New Testaments. All these things provide a great deal of support for the legitimacy of the Bible. Though these findings help greatly toward proving the Bible as legitimate, other things help as well.The Dead Sea Scrolls, as they are known today, help a great deal. The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947 in Jordan. The scrolls themselves were found in a group, inside a cave, many of them sealed in ancient wine jugs to preserve them over the years. The ancient manuscripts were written on rolls of leather and papyrus and survive in varying conditions. There are over six hundred scrolls that have been discovered thus far, all of them are written in Hebrew and Aramaic. The manuscripts that have been recovered thus far have all come from caves near Khirbat Qumran at the northwest coast of the Dead Sea. This discovery supports the cogency of the Old Testament because they contain parts of every book except Esther (Dead). In an interview with Dr. Brad Kalajainen, B.A. from Asbury College (Secondary Education), Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary, Doctorate of Ministry from the United Theological Seminary and current Sr. Pastor at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, he had this to say, “There are some discrepancies among scholars about the origin of these manuscripts.” He went on to discuss how some scholars agree that the books were copied by a group of scribes who were named the Essenes. The Essenes, their name most likely meaning “holy ones”, were a Jewish sect in Palestine during the time of Jesus. These people had strict religious practices and were mostly secluded from the outside world. Many professors think that John the Baptist came from this religious sect, though nothing has been proven (Dr. Kalajainen).
