government that they must surrender.(ONeal 36) The bomb killed many but served its purpose in helping to end most of the air raids which killed more people.One American incendiary air raid on the Tokyo area on May 10,1945 did more damage and killed and injured 124,000 the bomb on Hiroshima killed 80,000.(Feis 267) The Bomb on Hiroshima no matter how tragic it might of seemed did more good because it was a clear sign to the Japanese to end the war and surrender.The only way you stop the killings is to end a war. The bomb on Hiroshima did just that it helped put an end to the massive killings and destruction. The fastest and most accurate way to end the war was throughout the bomb. America was not just looking to kill and destroy the Japanese through the bomb it was looking to end the war. If victory could be speeded up by using the bomb it should be used.Secretary of war Stimson on October 1942 states, . . .if victory must be delayed in order to use the bomb, it should not be used.(Feis 267) By letting the war drag on tens to thousands of Japanese would of died through suicide missions. The United States had tried to end the war and force the Japanese to surrender through many other ways; air raids and land and foot invasions. These things simply did not work . The only alternative was the Atomic Bomb. People say that invading the Japanese on land would of also been a sure shot in ending the war.
