Secretary of State Byrnes calculated that our possessing and demonstrating the bomb would make the Russians more manageable in Europe.(Takaki 7)The Japanese would of surrendered even if the United States wouldnt of dropped the bomb, but because the United States was so eager to detonate the bomb and end the war as soon as possible President Truman wanted to give the Japanese only little chance to surrender. In effect, the decision to drop the bomb without warning had been confirmed by the president and the military.( Wyden 174) The United States continued to push on in their efforts to put an end to the war throughthe atomic bomb. The United States never looked ahead to the facts telling the amount of casualties that would occur because of the bomb.
