With such a wide range of engines to choose from, one might wonder what prompted Enzo to adopt the flat-12 engine for his Formula 1 racing cars (np). Although 6-Cylinder and 8-Cylinder engines produced nearly the same top speed of around 225 – 275 kilometers an hour, Enzo Ferrari chose his faster 12-Cylinder Ferraris that sported top speeds in excess of 300 kilometers an hour (“Specification” np). Interestingly enough, in 1961, Ferrari competition cars were redesigned to accommodate for rear-end placements of engines (“History” np). There are ten Formula 1 World Titles accredited to Enzo Ferrari’s ingenious design (“Official” np). Only two men on the Ferrari Racing Team have ever aspired to claim two Formula 1 World Titles. Albert Ascari won the Formula 1 World Title in 1952 and 1953 (np). Niki Lauda won the Formula One World Title in 1975 and 1977 (np).The production of Ferraris was increased solely for racing revenue. Many times, last-year's cars were sold to buy and improve newer, sleeker, and faster racing cars. In 1947, only three Ferraris were built, and all were either 125 S’s or 195 S’s (“Productivity” np; “Competizione” np). The year of 1952 marked the 100th car manufactured in a single year with 132 Ferraris being built (“Productivity” np). The 375 Indy, 225 S, 250 MM, and 340 Mexico were the four models produced in 1952 (“Competizione” np). In 1961, more than 1,000 Ferraris were manufactured (“Productivity” np). The TR 61 and 246 SP were both models for the year of 1961 (“Competizione” np). In 1988, approximately 50,000 Ferraris were manufactured (“Productivity” np).
