ecause they have found land, where they need to get, that heightens hope and all possibilities. They will fight to the death to get there.To add onto their frustrations, some people on land up on the road have spotted the men and are waving a shirt, but after waiting several more hours for a rescue they begin loosing even more hope when nobody comes. They can’t decide whether or not the man up on the shore has seen them. This stresses the men out but the Captain still seems to maintain his sense of calmness and he begins to realize himself that if they want to get out of there they are going to have to do it themselves. It’s hard to think what is going on in the Captains head before he commands his fleet to rush on through the current and make way for land, but I’m sure no matter how much experience he has as a sea captain, he knows that his fear is stronger than any current. They all realize that they are going to have to flee the boat and make way for land. That automatically puts a lot of pressure on yourself because you know that you can’t make a mistake or else you could loose your life to Mother Nature. After that wave took them up and they abandoned their boat, the only thing they were thinking about was getting to land. They all made it with the exception of the Captain. Maybe in the end this is how the Captain wanted it. He was proud and had a lot of pride to maintain control like that on the sea and by him being courageous one last time proves to everyone that he went out glorious. He lived through the sinking of the steamer and he got the rest of his crew to shore safely.I think that the author of this story wanted to show the courageous mentality of the Captain and the crew and how the captain didn’t go down with his boat until his crew was on shore safely. It was interesting how the characters did not really show a huge ton of emotions but I guess that is why you chose this story fo...
