Toxicant Paper

).Production of the chemical Deet is entirely synthetic. The chemical does require special disposure methods that can occur at sanitation facilities. Ingestion of Deet, as will soon be explained, can be extremely dangerous to human life. So improper disposal can pose a risk of contamination into drinking water. The government usually provides the costs of disposing hazardous chemicals. The primary reason Deet is dangerous is if it is ingested, so most disposal methods legal or otherwise, produce little effect on its toxicity. The production of Deet induces many benefits to the DEET 5general public. At the very least, Deet does serve to inhibit the common annoyance of pestering insects when people are outdoors. Its ability to repel disease-carrying insects also aids in lowering the spread of disease.Deet is also an easy to produce repellant. It can be diluted with a variety of other 43compounds, including water and air. Deet is most effective when used in a solution that is comprised of about 30% Deet. This is also the level at which most scientists believe it can be safely used. Since the Environmental Protection Agency is the primary litigant for waste-disposal statues its conclusion that Deet is non-maleficent deduces that no laws are necessary for its disposal. As previously addressed, the improper usage of Deet can cause significant harm to the Human body. Short-term exposure, where organisms have applied products of high concentrations (greater than 30%) of Deet for more than a few days have been known to cause a variety of dermal reactions such as skin irritation, and painful blistering. If it is ingested or comes in contact with the eyes it can cause severe vomiting and conjunctivitis, and even death (Ambrose et al 1959). Long-term exposure to the toxicant allows the side effects to fester. The systems that are primarily affected by interactions with high concentrations of Deet are the dermal regions of the body, and the eyes, no...
