se and mouth areas. If released into the environment, Deet can disrupt the almost any eco-system, by inhibiting the functioning of most insect species. Therefore, Deet is carefully transported via air DEET 6pressure containment. This makes most Deet products highly flammable and are capable of producing violent explosions if exposed to intense heat.Case Studies and DiscussionThe case studies that will be analyzed examine the effects exposure to the chemical Deet can invoke on the subject test groups. Since Deet is a chemical that is designed for use on the dermal region of the body the focus of all the case studies are on that part of the body. The findings of the case studies appear to indicate that the harm that can be produced by exposure to the toxicant is caused by the misuse of Deet products, or a use of products containing a high concentration of the chemical (30% or higher). The first Study conducted by Cornell University in 1959 investigated the reaction Deet can cause when applied to the eyes of its subjects. A Children’s Hospital of Denver Study looks at the typical use of Deet, and the symptoms their patients experienced his utilization of the chemical. A Department of Dermatology study at the Naval Medical Center San Diego also confirms the effects Deet products have been documented to cause. The three case studies are intuitively delineated into three major regions of the United States: the eastern region (Cornell Univ. in New York), central region (Denver, Colorado), and the western region (San Diego). DEET 7The study conducted by Cornell University in 1959 is one of the primary sources of data from which most known information about the hazards of the toxicant is derived. Dr. Lawrence Lamberg conducted the study with the use of Domesticated Rabbits as his test subjects. 64 one year old, fully mature male rabbits were sprayed in the eyes with Deet products on a 2 times daily basis once every month. Stored in their n...
