In the first scenes of this act we see the appearance of a ghost while Horatio, Barnardo, and Marcellus. The ghost came in the form of the dead father of Prince Hamlet of Denmark. So Horatio decides to go tell the prince of what he had observed.In the Elsinore castle the new king Claudius, which is the brother of hamlets father is thanking his supporters and is also sending ambassadors to Norway to halt an attack by Fortinbras. He gives permission to Laertes to return to France but denies Hamlet going to Wittenberg. Hamlet is still mourning his fathers’ death, he is also thinking about his mothers’ marriage to his uncle. It happened only one month after his fathers’ death. When Horatio, Barnardo, and Marcellus arrive to tell him the news about the ghost he agrees to join them that night and watch if it appears again. That night when they were at watch the ghost came again and hamlet was amazed at what he saw, he then hears the ghost tell him that Claudius murdered him, and he wants Hamlet to avenge his death. Hamlet agrees and makes the guard swear to keep secret what they have seen.Act IIHamlet is very upset that Ophelia is refusing to see him so he goes to her room and takes her by the waist and wrist and stares her down. Polonius jumps to conclusions and assumes that hamlet is in love with Ophelia and her refusal to see him has driven him insane. So he goes and tells the king this. The king also gets news that the ambassadors he sent to stop Fotinbras were successful so he now agrees with Polonius and sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern , who were childhood friends of hamlet to go and spy on him and to see if they find out what’s making him insane. Hamlet found it weird that his friends had come to see him and doubted what they said, they told him that there was a group of actors coming to town to perform a play.
